Tour helicopter crashes; fate of one passenger unknown

Advertiser Staff

A tour helicopter carrying six people has crashed into waters on the north shore of Kaua'i, about 600 yards offshore from Haena State Park, the Coast Guard said.

Two of those aboard were recovered by rescue helicopters and three others were taken to the beach at Haena Point. A sixth person had been missing, but was found by the Kaua'i Fire Department, the Coast Guard said. That person's condition was not available.

The Federal Aviation Administration contacted the Coast Guard at 2:41 p.m. reporting the crash, a Coast Guard news release said.

Two Navy HH-60 helicopters and one H3 helicopter are on scene. A Coast Guard HH-65, the Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake and a small boat from Station Kaua'i are en route and should be on scene shortly.
