"Three Wishes" debut, 8 p.m., NBC. There is nothing complicated about this show. It simply gives people stuff. However, it works on lots of emotional levels and is an ultimate feel-good hour. Singer Amy Grant hosts. Carpenters Carter Oosterhouse and Eric Stromer and designer Diane Mizota help. Besides being immensely photogenic, these people project warm humanity. In the opener, they simply set up a tent and listen to people's wishes. That's a bit contrived — they had the main wish in mind before going there. Still, it's immensely satisfying.

OF NOTE

"The Ghost Whisperer" debut, 7 p.m., CBS. A young woman doesn't just see dead people; they look her up and ask for favors. Jennifer Love Hewitt is a likable star. Still, this morose opener, about a departed soldier, will be difficult for many viewers.

"The Bernie Mac Show" season opener, 7 p.m., Fox. In the first of two new back-to-back episodes, a stranger (Anthony Anderson) claims to be the father of Bernie's niece. In the second, Bernie's nephew is on the wrestling team, so Stone Cold Steve Austin offers advice.

"Killer Instinct" debut, 8 p.m., Fox. The pilot film has a young woman held in captivity and tarantulas walking on the faces of sleeping women. Those moments are so grotesque that viewers should stay away. Try next week.

"Numb3rs" season opener, 9 p.m., CBS. When the wife of a judge is killed, Don wonders if her husband was the real target.

"Inconceivable," 9 p.m., NBC. There should be plenty of warmth and humor in a fertility clinic, but little comes across in the opener. Maybe things will improve when Angie Harmon joins the cast next week.
