POLICE BEAT
Knifepoint threat reported

Advertiser Staff

A 39-year-old man was arrested on Sand Island early this morning after he allegedly threatened a 26-year-old man with a knife.

The younger man first told police he got into an argument with the older man, who was aboard a boat tied to a pier, when the older man took out a gun and fired it into the air.

Officers went to the scene and arrested the older man about 1:40 a.m. on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. But the younger man later recanted the part about a shot being fired into the air and said the man who was arrested took out a knife but did not move toward him with it, police said.

Police downgraded the case to suspicion of second-degree terroristic threatening.

Man accused of carrying gun in public

Police arrested a 24-year-old man in Waikiki early yesterday morning after they reported finding a handgun on him.

Officers were sent to an area near Kalia Road and Beach Walk about 4:25 a.m. after receiving a report of a man carrying a handgun along Kalia.

One of the officers saw a man who fit the description and approached him, but the man ran away, police said.

The officer chased the man down Kalia Road, caught up to him and detained him. During a pat search, police found the handgun and arrested the man on suspicion of carrying a firearm in public, police said.
