Today is "Family Day — A Day to Eat Dinner With Your Children," a national effort to strengthen families. Some tips to make the most out of family dinner:

  • Turn off the television and ignore the telephone.

  • Set a routine to start and end each meal: Say grace or tell a story.

  • Talk about what happened in everyone's day. Keep the conversation positive and make sure everyone gets a chance to speak.

    SAVE THE PLANET

    PESTICIDE WITH A TWIST

Here's a recipe for citrus spray — a nontoxic pesticide for soil to treat gnats, flies, mosquitoes and worms — courtesy of environmental expert Brian Dolansky on the hgtv.com Web site:

Boil 1 gallon of water with five to six orange or lemon rinds for two to three hours. Cool, strain and pour into a spray bottle.

Spray all your plants with the solution or isolate the plant being sprayed because pests will leave the treated plant and look for another plant to infest. Treatments should be applied once a day until the pests are under control.

    FINAL WORD

"The journey toward perfection is by definition a path of mistakes. We have a right to many things, but a life without problems is not one of them."
