'Into the Blue' actors cool off at Ko Olina

SIGHT 'EMS: Paul Walker and Jessica Alba, the one-two punch in "Into the Blue," which splashes into movie theaters Friday, were frolicking in the waters off the Ko Olina Resort and Marina recently. Nope, they weren't filming footage for the new MGM/Columbia/ Sony film; they were interviewed for both "Access Hollywood" and MTV. Local folks lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the two were particularly pleased with Walker, who didn't mind signing autographs and posing for pictures between breaks. ...

Timothy Albrecht, guest director-choreographer of Diamond Head Theatre's "The Full Monty," had a special opening night when the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical made its Island premiere last Friday. Reason: Janet Gray, his college dance teacher from Salt Lake City, was there. Gray also will teach a master tap class at the University of Hawai'i today. ...

NOTEWORTHY: Hours after the "Kokua for Katrina" broadcast event on Sunday, The Barefoot Natives (Willie K and Eric Gilliom) returned to the stage for an explosive 40-minute set that culminated in a song with Danny Kaleikini. "It was an honor to perform with a Hawaiian legend such as Danny," said the Natives. Kaleikini also said it was a special moment for him, too, because he performed in the past with Willie's dad, Manu Kahaiali'i, and Gilliom's grandmother, Jennie Napua Woodd. ...

When Ed Wary opens his newest Auntie Pasto's Sunday in the Kunia Shopping Center, the launch (from 6 to 8 p.m.) will be a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Crooner Joey Caldarone will sing Italian tunes in honor of his mother and grandfather, who both have diabetes. Nona Beamer, the tireless resource on Hawaiiana, will receive the 2005 Nancy Corbett Lifetime Achievement Award from the Honolulu Theatre for Youth in a dinner affair themed, "Pau Hana Time at the Royal." The event is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Monarch Room. Beebe Freitas, the venerable Hawai'i Opera Theatre booster, will be the 2005 Alfred Preis honoree at the Celebrate the Arts Alliance Awards event, from 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Hawai'i Theatre. The show, sponsored by the Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education, will feature kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine, tenor Les Ceballos and special guest Roslyn (Freitas' daughter). PERSONALITIES: Comedian Augie T, who just played in Guam last weekend, has been on the go — with no rest in sight. A recent San Francisco gig (he played at the Cal State East College in Hayward) is leading to three return engagements, in Sacramento, Hayward and San Diego. In the City by the Bay, Augie was among the judges for the Sam Choy poke contest at the Hukilau Restaurant. Shows with Kermit Apio in Seattle also are on the horizon; Augie is also being lured to the Palm Springs Comedy Festival at the end of October. Finally, his comedy album (and DVD) taped live at the Iao Theatre will be out in mid-November. ...
