New indictment expected in Gowadia case

A Maui man accused of selling military secrets to foreign governments will be facing a new indictment, federal prosecutors said today.

Assistant U. S. Attorney Ken Sorenson said in federal court that prosecutors will seek new charges against Noshir Gowadia "relatively soon."

Sorenson declined to elaborate on the new charges, but they will likely lead to a postponement of Gowadia's trial date, set for May 9.

Gowadia, 61, who has been held without bail since Oct. 26 at the Federal Detention Center, is charged in a six-count indictment with violating the U. S. Arms Export Control Act and delivering national defense information and classified data to foreign persons.

The former design engineer for a defense contractor is accused of selling classified information about the B-2 stealth bomber to foreign governments.
