Wie back at No. 2 in world

Advertiser Staff

Michelle Wie is back at No. 2 in the Women's World Golf Ranking.

Wie, who finished tied for third and a shot out of a playoff in last week's Kraft Nabisco Championship, fell out of last week's rankings because of insufficient tournament entries.

Annika Sorenstam, who finished sixth but never challenged for the lead at the Kraft Nabisco, remains in first. Paula Creamer and Yuri Fudoh of Japan each dropped one to third and fourth, followed by Lorena Ochoa. Ochoa, who was sixth last week, lost in a playoff to Karrie Webb at the Kraft Nabisco, the LPGA's first major of the season.

The women's ranking, sponsored by Rolex, is published every Tuesday and used as criteria for getting into tournaments such as the LPGA Championship, the Women's British Open and the HSBC Women's World Match Play. Wie already is committed to play in all three.

It measures performance over two years, with emphasis placed on the most recent 13-week period. Points are assigned based on the strength of field, then divided by the number of tournaments played.
