City's three-day Centennial Festival starts Friday

Advertiser Staff

(Editor's note: A previous posting incorrectly described the festival as a four-day event.)

The Honolulu Centennial Family Festival, canceled last week because of the downpours, will resume a three-day schedule on Friday at Magic Island.

Opening ceremonies will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, and the night's offering will wrap up at midnight. Operating hours for Saturday and Sunday are from noon to midnight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., respectively.

The festival marks the city's 100th birthday and is open free to the public.

Free entertainment will feature Anelaikalani and Maunalua on Friday night, Kani Makou and B.E.T. Saturday night, and Kapena and the Backyard Pa'ina on Sunday beneath the community tent.

There are admission fees for the E.K. Fernandez rides, but $18 wristbands — good for unlimited rides — will be available for use for two slots on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
