UH-Hilo tops San Jose State

Kyle Correira had three RBIs, including a tie-breaking two-run double in the second, as Hawai'i-Hilo beat San Jose State, 4-3, yesterday to salvage a split of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Wong Stadium.

Tyler Curtis and Kyler Wartman each had three hits, and Vinnie Biggs pitched 4 1/3 innings of four-hit, one-run relief to earn the victory for the Vulcans (11-25).

The Spartans (21-13) scored three runs in the fourth to win the opener, 4-2.

UHH SWEEPS BYUH

Vanessa Badosa hit a solo homer and a grand slam in a 10-run third inning as host Hawai'i-Hilo beat Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 12-0, yesterday in a game abbreviated to five innings by the mercy rule.

Leo Sing Chow pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts for the Vulcans (15-14), who won the second game of the doubleheader, 4-2.

Holly Bjork had three hits, including a homer, for the Seasiders (8-20).
