Suspect held in burglary

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 36-year-old man about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday after they saw him driving away from a home in Wai'anae where a burglary in progress had been reported.

Police quickly determined the car the man was driving had been reported stolen from a 65-year-old man. The woman whose home was burglarized came to the area where the man was being detained and identified several items in the car, and some that were found on the man, as having been stolen from her home.

When police were searching through the car, they reported finding a loaded shotgun, additional ammunition, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN CHECK FORGERY

A 44-year-old Aliamanu woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly tried to cash several counterfeit traveler's checks at a Salt Lake-area bank.

Police said the woman handed four checks to the teller, who notified a supervisor. Police said bank officials were suspicious because they recently had been alerted about a scheme involving counterfeit traveler's checks.
