Advertiser Staff

Brig. Gen. Vern Miyagi will relinquish command of the Hawai'i Army National Guard during a change-of-command ceremony this afternoon at Kalaeloa.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Chaves will assume the command from Miyagi. Miyagi's new assignment will be as mobilization assistant to the commander of U.S. Pacific Command.

In addition to his new duties, Chaves will continue to serve as commander of the 29th Separate Infantry Brigade, which recently spent a year deployed to various locations in the Middle East.
