New steps taken in Johnson investigation

Advertiser Staff

An independent pathologist has been hired by the family of Oliver Johnson to review findings by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office about the cause and manner of his death, the family's attorney, James Leavitt, said at a news conference today.

Leavitt also said a wallet that was used by Johnson, 34, the night he ended up in the Ala Wai Boat Harbor will be sent to investigators at the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Johnson's family has hired Leavitt to assist them in investigating the circumstances that led to his death Thursday night, a week after Johnson apparently got into a fight and ended up in the sewage-tainted harbor.
