Wai'anae man arrested in assault

A 56-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested yesterday evening after a 33-year-old woman told police the man attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman, who described the man as an acquaintance, said she accepted a ride home from the him but he took her to his home, instead, and tried to sexually assault her between 6 and 7:15 p.m.

The woman said she struggled with the man, who tore her clothes and head-butted her. She said she convinced the man to stop and to drive her to a relative's house and drop her off.

Police said the woman and her husband then began chasing the man in their car when a police officer saw what was happening and was able to stop the suspect on Farrington Highway and Wai'anae Valley Road.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of attempted first-degree sexual assault.



Woman says intruder assaulted her

Police opened sexual assault and burglary cases yesterday after a 23-year-old woman told police she was awakened early yesterday morning by a man who was sexually assaulting her.

The woman said she had been drinking Saturday night and had gone home to sleep in her locked home when she awoke about 2:30 a.m. to find a stranger in her bedroom fondling her.

Police said the man climbed out of an open bedroom window and ran away after the woman woke up, and believed he entered the house through the same window.

Police had made no arrests in the case as of this morning.



Man arrested in phony money case

Police arrested a 31-year-old 'Ewa Beach man last night after he alleged tried to cash a counterfeit $100 bill at a Safeway supermarket on Ka'ahumanu Street in Waimalu.

Police arrested the man about 9:40 p.m. on suspicion of first-degree forgery.
