Alleged hit-and-run driver arrested

Advertiser Staff

A 51-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly hit an 82-year-old man with a car in December and fled the scene, police said.

Police said the motorist struck the older man on Dec. 17. The older man was not seriously injured. But rather than render aid, the motorist fled, police said.

The car the 51-year-old was driving was stolen, and the owner reported it, police said. The man was located yesterday and arrested after witnesses picked him out of a line-up, police said.

He was booked on suspicion of car theft and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Assault report leads to arrest

A 57-year-old Makiki man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old woman twice.

The woman, who rents an apartment from the man, told police that he sexually assaulted her on two occasions, police said. Police did not disclose details of the alleged assaults and it is not clear if the woman still lives in the same building.

The man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of two counts of fourth degree sexual assault.

Woman arrested in theft

A 43-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after she allegedly stole items from a mall and fought with security officers trying to detain her, police said.

At 8:50 p.m. last night, store security officers at Macy's in Pearlridge saw the woman put several items into a tote bag, police said. Security officers stopped the woman once she left the store.

The woman fought the security officers and tried to escape before she was rundown, police said.

The woman, Daphne D. Helenihi, was charged with second-degree robbery yesterday and her bail was set at $11,000.
