TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Rx for Survival — The Heroes," 9 p.m., PBS, and "10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America," 6 p.m., History Channel. Here are passionate documentaries, done with skill and emotion. The original "Rx for Survival" filled six hours in November with a disturbing view of global health crises. This follow-up looks at individuals who make a difference. People are finding ways to fight night blindness and to slow a resurgence of tuberculosis and polio. A couple is turning motorcycles (with sidecars) into mini-ambulances. And Dr. Ernest Darkoh, with degrees in medicine and public health from Harvard University, has led a successful program against AIDS in Botswana. Meanwhile, the History Channel series views two crucial moments. First is the 1925 trial of John Scopes, who was arrested for teaching evolution. The case wasn't nearly as clear-cut as Hollywood has told us, the film says. Then there is the armed confrontation near Pittsburgh in 1892, pitting striking steelworkers against Pinkerton men. Filmmaker Rory Kennedy has crafted a gripping and disturbing hour.

OF NOTE

"Amazing Race," 7 p.m., CBS. The show has a new slot. Last week, Dave and Lori, the self-proclaimed "geeks," lost after being stuck in a traffic jam. Tonight, the teams proceed to Greece and an ancient-Olympic variation of mud wrestling.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. This is the fifth-season finale, with questions everywhere. Is the factory moving? Is George's wife pregnant? Will their daughter get into college? And will his mother be arrested?

"The Loop," 7 p.m., Fox. This show borrows the "Bones" slot so "American Idol" can start early. In a rerun, Sam accidentally flies a date to Hong Kong.

"American Idol," 7:30 p.m., Fox. The results show starts earlier than usual and is expanded to an hour so Queen can perform.

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. Jack and Kate head into the jungle to broker a deal with the others. The mission could lead to romance.

"Heist," 8 p.m., NBC. This hour spends more time on the cop side. Billy and Tyrese put pressure on young Ricky to learn about the recent crimes. Meanwhile, Amy the cop and Mickey the crook are falling for each other.

"CSI: NY," 9 p.m., CBS. A man in a Superman suit has been killed while attempting a rescue.

"Evidence," 9 p.m., ABC. Several murders are linked to a drug-treatment center.
