The next weekend, Dominic Monaghan and Evangeline Lilly heard the Mozart Requiem classical program, after Lilly was a top bidder for tickets at a charity function. ...

SHOW BREEZES: Last weekend's Society of Seven songfest at the Hawai'i Theatre should've been filmed for a DVD release. The awesome show, jammed with socko material, capitalized on the return of Albert Maligmat (filling in since the death of Gary Bautista), showcased the luminous Lani Misalucha in a myriad of forms (impressions, opera, even "Kamehameha Waltz"), mined the vocal riches and chit-chat skills of Martin Nievera, and amplified the creative genius of group leader and show-shaper Tony Ruivivar. A splendid sandwich of Broadway blockbusters — without the benefit of elaborate costuming of the past (only Misalucha was continuously decked out in elegant finery) — enabled the group (with Nievera jumping in, too) to escalate the lingering power of "Phantom of the Opera," "Man of La Mancha," "The King and I," "Chicago," "West Side Story" and "Jekyll & Hyde."

Bert Sagum was a drag, too — he inherited Bautista's Cher spot, donned a gown while playing off Randy Abellar's Sonny — but the other group members had ample solo time, with Maligmat's Ray Charles back with sleek shades of soul, Misalucha capturing the essence of Celine Dion, Hoku Low doing his manic Wayne Newton, Roy Guerzo bojangling it as Sammy Davis Jr. and Wayne Wakai tooting his flute as Kenny G.

Jewel Bautista, Gary's daughter; her mother, Julia; and brother, Santino, attended Saturday night's performance. Must've been a tearful moment when the group paid homage to Gary via "Always and Forever," the song he was singing when he collapsed in January. Frannie Kirk put together a visual montage that showed him in all his glory. ...

PERSONALITIES: Psychic Dayle Schear is back home in her new Punalu'u digs ("I had eight inches of water and a fish in my yard during the bad weather," she said). She's promoting "An Angel Over the Airwaves," her book about a woman who marries a TV mogul, gets shot, journeys to heaven, but talks Gabriel into giving her a chance to come back to Earth. Schear signs books at 2 p.m. May 13 at Barnes & Noble at Ala Moana Center but she hasn't given up her psychic readings. On May 7 she resumes her tableside sessions for locals at the Crouching Lion, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays. She "sees" a Perry & Price brunch show visit at John Dominis on May 13. ...

Camile Velasco, Maui's "American Idol" finalist, sang at a Lahainaluna High School 175th anniversary event at the Royal Lahaina, but apparently her brand of music wasn't quite the fit the planners intended. George Kahumoku Jr., one of the Hawaiian Grammy Award winners, had wider appeal with his homespun Hawaiiana and ki ho'alu artistry. ...

Saab dealer James Berger Jr. assembled a party of 40 for wife Helen's birthday Monday night at Compadres. The party doubled as a bon voyage mission because Helen, a former Mrs. Thailand, is heading for Bangkok and a round of modeling and product-launching work. She's a celeb there, thanks to a Thai TV show, "Miss Helen." ...
