1920: The Prince of Wales visits Honolulu for a day. He was on board the battle cruiser Renown.
1944: Federal Judge Delbert E. Metzger rules that martial law is illegal and ceased to exist as of March 10, 1943. He releases Pearl Harbor worker Lloyd D. Duncan because Duncan was tried in a military court and Metzger found that the military governor had no authority over civilian matters.
1974: Church College of Hawaii announces that it will become a branch of Brigham Young University in the fall.
1984: Hawai'i's interisland airlines Hawaiian, Aloha and Mid-Pacific announce they will ban smoking on interisland flights beginning at the end of the month. Hawai'i would become the first state in which all airline passengers flew smoke-free intrastate.
1997: Tiger Woods, 21, makes golf history, becoming the youngest champion of The Masters in Augusta, Ga.
