Several Windward beaches expected to remain closed

Advertiser Staff

Several Windward O'ahu beaches are expected to remain closed through the Easter weekend as a result of contaminated water from sewage spills.

Warning signs remain posted from Waimanalo Beach Park through Bellows Beach Park and Wailea Point, as well as from Kane'ohe Beach Park through Kokokahi, according to the state Health Department.

Signs are up near the mouth of Ka'elepulu Stream but not at Kailua Beach Park itself.

The Health Department is also continuing to leave signs posted along all sections of the Ala Wai Canal, Ala Wai Boat Harbor and Ala Wai Channel.

The city Parks Department yesterday announced it plans to shut down camp sites at Bellows Field Beach Park for the weekend.
