Warning signs lifted at Bellows, Waimanalo beaches

Advertiser Staff

Warning signs about contaminated water are being removed at Bellows Beach, Waimanalo Beach Park and along Kaelepulu Stream, according to Department of Health officials.

Elevated bacteria levels in the water, due to a combination of runoff from recent heavy rains and sewage spills, prompted officials to close the three Windward O'ahu areas on March 25. Other area beaches have been closed since early April. Warning signs remain posted at from Kane'ohe Beach Park through Kokokahi Beach, said Health Department spokesman Kurt Tsue.

The Health Department is also continuing to leave signs posted along all sections of the Ala Wai Canal, Ala Wai Boat Harbor and Ala Wai Channel.
