ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
'Manderlay,' part two of trilogy

Advertiser Staff

Danish auteur Lars von Trier wouldn't know how to make a mainstream movie if someone gave him a color-coded set of instructions and a clue. His 1996 "Breaking the Waves" protagonist believed a higher power demanded she be a sexual deviant to save her dying husband's life. His 2003 musical "Dancer in the Dark" featured Bjork in the lead. And "Manderlay" at Doris Duke Theatre tonight? It's the minimalist, sound-stage-filmed part two of von Trier's America-ripping trilogy that began with 2004's "Dogville." Pass the popcorn! At 1 and 7:30 p.m.; 532-8768.
