Police Beat: Suspect arrested for breaking into cars

A 32-year-old man who lives in the downtown Honolulu area was arrested yesterday evening after several witness reported seeing him break into two different cars on Maunakea Street.

Police were called about 6 p.m. and the witnesses identified the alleged thief, who was arrested on suspicion of two counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Woman kidnapped, threatened by ex-boyfriend

A 36-year-old Whitmore Village man was arrested early yesterday morning after his 28-year-old former girlfriend told police the man kidnapped and threatened to harm her Wednesday night.

The ex-girlfriend told police she broke up with the man a couple of days earlier and that he became enraged when he saw her at a neighborhood card game in Whitmore Village about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman said she decided to leave the card game and was walking away when the ex-boyfriend came up and forced her to go with him to his residence. When they arrived at the man's home, he choked her, pulled her hair and threatened to shoot her with a handgun, the woman said.

She said she began to call for help and a neighbor apparently heard the commotion and called police.

Police arrested the former boyfriend on suspicion of kidnapping and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Suspect arrested while starting car with screwdriver

An 18-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested on suspicion of car theft about 6 p.m. last night by a police officer who was in Wai'anae investigating an unrelated case.

The police officer said he saw the man attempting to use a screwdriver to start a parked vehicle.

The officer ran a check on the car's license plates and learned a 28-year-old man had reported the car stolen.

The man trying to start the car was arrested for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Two suspects arrested for sexual assault, kidnapping

Two men, ages 23 and 21, were arrested yesterday as suspects in a sexual assault and kidnapping case alleged to have taken place in 'Ewa Beach in January.

Police said the two suspects were arrested after a boy and girl, both 16, claimed they were held against their will by the two men and that the girl was sexually assaulted.
