Police recover stolen items, including officer's badge

Advertiser Staff

Police this afternoon recovered more items that were stolen from an off-duty police officer's car in 'Ewa Wednesday.

Capt. Frank Fujii, police spokesman, said plainclothes officers from the Wai'anae police station recovered the badge, gun belt and portable radio that belonged to Officer Taase Faumui. Still missing are Faumui's uniform, pepper spray, baton, handcuffs and spare ammunition, Fujii said.

Fujii said that a 17-year-old boy was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of theft. But Fujii would not say where the arrest was made or whether the boy had any of the stolen items in his possession.

Meanwhile, a man and a woman remain in police custody after they were arrested yesterday afternoon in Leeward O'ahu. Police recovered Faumui's 9 mm service handgun in the couple's car.

Faumui's parked his Dodge Neon near the Honouliuli wastewater treatment plant Wednesday afternoon after it ran out of gas. The car was broken into and his police equipment stolen.
