Shields wins Rumble on Rock title

Jake Shields defeated Carlos Condit to win the Rumble on the Rock organization's inaugural world welterweight title in the final bout of a mixed martial arts event that ended 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

In other late results at Blaisdell Arena, Eric "Butterbean" Esch beat Aaron Aguilera on a choke submission at 1:15 of the second round, and Japan's Kuniyoshi Hironaka defeated Renato Verissimo on a TKO at 3:03 of the second round in the last bout in a series of Hawaii-vs.-Japan fights. Hawaii won the five-fight series, 3-2.

Earlier in the event that started 7:30 Friday night, Shields of San Francisco defeated Japan's Yushin Okami and Condit of New Mexico beat Frank Trigg of Los Angeles to advance to the welterweight finals.

Shields (13-4-1) won by unanimous decision over Condit (14-3).
