Rev. Kubose sets talk for May 7

The Rev. Koyo Kubose of the Kubose Dharma Legacy in Skokie, Ill., will discuss "Everyday Gassho" at the O'ahu district's Spring English Seminar 7:30 p.m. May 7 at Wahiawa Hongwanji Mission.

Kubose, author of "Bright Dawn," was born in Los Angeles and spent his early years in internment camps in Wyoming and Arizona. Later a professor, he also studied Shin Buddhism in Japan and practiced meditation with Zen masters of the Soto and Rinzai traditions.

ISRAEL DAY EVENT NEXT MONTH

Yom Ha'Atzmaut, the free Israel Day Hawaii Festival commemorating 58 years of Israel's independence, takes place at 11 a.m. May 21 at Skygate Park on the lawn adjoining the Municipal Building.

There will be Middle Eastern food such as falafel, halvah and burekas, as well as Israeli art, Middle Eastern dancing and games for keiki.
