Fresno State sweeps Hawai'i

Fresno State rallied for four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 5-2 victory in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Hawai'i in Western Athletic Conference softball yesterday at Bulldog Diamond in Fresno, Calif.

Robin Mackin pitched a four-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory in the first game.

Fresno State, No. 23 in the national rankings, is 31-13 overall, 9-1 in the WAC. The Rainbow Wahine are 23-17 and 7-4.

In the second game, UH took a 1-0 lead in the first when Valana Manuma singled then later scored on a single by Tanisha Milca. The Rainbow Wahine scored another run in the fourth when Kate Robinson homered to right-center field.

But Fresno State closed to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Kristin Sylvester tripled to right and scored on a single by Ashley White.

In the fifth, the Bulldogs scored four runs on five hits, including a two-run homer by Christina Clark.

In the first game, the Rainbow Wahine, tried to break through in the fourth inning. With two outs, Tyleen Tausaga singled to left field. On a 2-2 pitch, Milca doubled to center field, but Tausaga was thrown out trying to score on the play.

In the bottom of the sixth, Fresno State's Christina Clark walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Haley Perkins, and scored on single by Nichole Willis.

Mackin (23-6) struck out 10 Rainbow Wahine and walked none.

UH pitcher Courtney Baughman (7-4) allowed five hits, striking out two and walking one.
