GOING VEGAS
Red Rock Station opens with hoopla

By Anthony Curtis

Las Vegas' latest casino, Red Rock Station, opened to a giant fireworks display and overflow crowds. Located on the far west side of town, the dazzling $925 million resort is touted as the most extravagant built off the Strip. Polished sandstone, dark woods, chandeliers, and a lobby with a three-story rotunda and curved staircases define the resort. Red Rock includes nine restaurants and 25 bars, including the nightclub, Cherry. There's a 16-screen movie complex, a spa, and a pool area. Although Red Rock opened with just 415 rooms, a total of 850 are expected to be operating by the end of the year.

LOVE FOR SALE: Tickets are on sale for "LOVE," the Beatles/Cirque du Soleil collaboration planned for the specially-built theater at the Mirage. Tickets are $69, $99, $125, and $150, with a 25 percent discount for previews June 2-29.

Q. I've enjoyed the free lounge entertainment at the Sahara on many occasions. The shows now require that you buy one drink. Has the entertainment also changed?

A. Monday night is now "Blues Night" in the Casbar Lounge, replacing the comedy-night format. You can see the current rotation at www.sahara lasvegas.com.

• Correction: Las Vegas' newest casino, Red Rock Station, was built at a cost of $925 million. The cost of the resort was incorrect in an earlier version of this story.
