Two University of Hawai'i players and another from Hawai'i were named to the seven-player Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball all-conference team, the conference announced today.

Opposite hitter Lauri Hakala and setter Brian Beckwith of UH and former Iolani athlete Brent Asuka of No. 1 UC Irvine were voted to the top team by vote of the coaches.

Asuka, a freshman libero who resides in 'Aiea, was named newcomer of the year as regular-season champion UC Irvine swept the individual honors.

Outside hitter Jayson Jablonsky was named Player of the Year, and John Speraw, the Coach of the Year.

Two other UH players, libero Alfred Reft and outside hitter Matt Carere, were named to the second team while middle blocker Dio Dante and outside hitter Joe Delgado, were third-team selections. Middle blocker Maulia LaBarre was an honorable mention pick.

UC Irvine, UH and Long Beach State each had two players on the first team.

Asuka led the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, averaging 3.23 digs per game. He is fourth in the nation (3.08). He totaled double-digit digs in 19 matches this season.
