1905: Twenty people purchase leases for Palolo Valley homestead lots. The lots range from 2 to 31 acres
1924: The series of earthquakes that began April 23 continue to terrify Kapoho.
1970: Warrants are served on four students and four University of Hawai'i faculty members, charging them with criminal trespass after two ROTC buildings on the campus were occupied by demonstrators.
1980: A U.S. military operation to free the American hostages in Iran fails and results in the death of eight crewmen on two U.S. aircraft.
1992: Two of Hawai'i's four accredited private colleges Hawaii Pacific University and Hawaii Loa College announce they will merge.
2001: Hawai'i's public school teachers ratify a new contract, ending a strike that began on April 5. Classes resumed on April 25.
2002: American Catholic bishops agree to make it easier to remove priests guilty of sexually abusing minors but stop short of a zero-tolerance policy of dismissing all abusive priests. The agreement came at the end of an extraordinary two days of talks with Vatican officials aimed at stemming the sex-abuse scandal engulfing the U.S. church.
