An 81-year-old man was killed and a 30-year-old man was seriously injured in a head-on collision this morning between two pickup trucks on Kamehameha Highway about a mile north of the Helemano Plantation in Central O'ahu.

Witnesses said a Ford Ranger being driven by the younger man was headed toward Wahiawa when it drifted across the center line and collided with Toyota truck that the older man was driving toward Haleiwa.

Police shut down Kamehameha Highway between Weed Junction and Paalaa Uka Road after the crash, which occurred just before 7 a.m.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Wahiawa General Hospital and the second victim was taken by city ambulance to The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

On Monday, four women were killed and eight other people were severely injured when a pickup truck swerved into a ready-mix concrete truck on Kunia Road. Police believe the pickup had swerved to avoid a speeding silver sedan, which fled the scene.
