TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. Last week turned out fine, despite some scares. Fans were disappointed that the young singers were confined to Rod Stewart's "American Songbook" tunes, not his rock classics. That almost doomed Chris Daughtry, a great rocker who sang a ballad and fell to the bottom two. Daughtry survived and Ace Young was deservedly sent home. Now comes another crisis. This week's theme is love songs and its guest is Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Let's hope Daughtry has found a gritty love tune to fit his soulful voice.

OF NOTE

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. Human remains are found at a lodge that is used by visiting Navy families.

"Hope & Faith," 7:30 and 8 p.m., ABC. The first episode has the sisters with opposite ideas of what kind of woman to fix up their half-brother with. The second one has Faith feeling old and drab — until she moves to a retirement village where she's suddenly the hot one. That's a clever idea, except it was done last year in the Cameron Diaz movie "In Her Shoes."

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. A teen faith-healer has a brain abnormality. He doesn't want it treated, for fear he'll lose his gift.

"The Unit," 8 p.m., CBS. A prisoner-of-war training session may go too far.

"Boston Legal," 9 p.m., ABC. Alan and Chelina work on a racial profiling case. Meanwhile, Denny's behavior is becoming even more outrageous.

"Nashville Star," 10 p.m., USA Network. Last week, Casey Rivers gave a powerhouse example of flat-out, big-voice singing. That has to put him somewhere near the top of the list, alongside the imposing Chris Young. They're in the final four with the intense Matt Mason and hard-rocking Nicole Jamrose. Tonight, three will be sent to the finals. Also, Hank Williams Jr. performs and two Velvet Revolver guys — Scott Weiland and Duff McKagan — combine as guest judge.
