WHO 'N' WHERE: Randy Caparoso, formerly of Roy's Restaurants here and a vintner with his own label, Caparoso Wines, has become general manager of The Wine Room in Winter Park, Fla., just north of Orlando, where guests can sample 148 wines in 1-, 3- or 5-ounce portions at nominal fees. It's kind of a hangout for scenesters who like to sip, snack and shop — a brainchild of Bruce Simberg, a trial lawyer, who wants to roll out the concept in other cities. ...

Stacy Yoshioka, daughter of Emmett and Judy Yoshioka, has become the personal trainer for Broadway star Bernadette Peters. Yoshioka has been working at Equinox Spa in New York for several years now, occasionally dances, but when the Tony Award winner was seeking a trainer, Yoshioka got the nod. ...

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, who first encountered local boy Jake Shimabukuro in a Waikiki Shell show, have reunited for 16 concerts that started last week in Phoenix and extend over the next few months, culminating in a two-night stand in Boston. ...

Allan Landon, Bank of Hawai'i president and CFO, is chairman of Kids Day 2006, set for May 3, when The Advertiser publishes a special edition to benefit Parents and Children Together, or PACT. This year's theme, "Does Older Mean Wiser," includes essays, poems and artwork by students in grades 1 through 12.

As usual, a roster of community notables will sell the $1 paper, including Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Herman Frazier and University of Hawai'i coaches, and entertainers such as the Society of Seven Las Vegas group and cast members from "Cirque Hawai'i." 'Tiser staffers Rod Ohira and Leila Wai will be joined by reps from broadcast stations KSSK (Michael W. Perry, Larry Price, Sweetie Pacarro), KUMU (Frank B. Shaner, Mandy), KHON (Manolo Morales), KGMB (Kim Gennaula, Guy Hagi), Da Bomb (Sam the Man, Taka), KPOI (Ed Kanoi), KQMQ (Justin Cruz), Oldies 107.9 (John Matthews, Capt. "In the Mood," a traveling show highlighting swing and jazz, will be in residency May 12-14 at the Hawai'i Theatre. Expect big-band sounds and toe-tapping swing, a flashback to those mellow Glenn Miller sounds of yesteryear. ...

itemizations: The Makaha Sons and Kapena join "A Salute to the Troops," a free concert May 6 featuring Grammy winner John Legend at Kapi'olani Park. USO Hawai'i is staging the concert, which will be preceded by a 9:30 a.m. parade. The program, also with Seminole Country, a hip-hop group from Florida, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and the Royal Hawaiian Band, starts at noon, with main acts from 1:30 p.m. ...

"Carnivale" is the theme of the Hawai'i Theatre Center's fundraising gala, from 6:30 p.m. May 5 at The Kahala resort. Mardi Gras-influenced entertainment will feature Kit Samson's Sound Advice, Joey Caldarone, former Miss Hawai'i Meijide Gentry, Shawna Masuda and Leslie Goldman, who will link to such exotic locations as Rio, Havana and Guadalajara.
