Tatsuno not selected to baseball Hall of Fame

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawai'i pitcher Derek Tatsuno, the first college pitcher to win 20 games in a season, was not among the initial class of 10 former players and coaches selected for the College Baseball Hall of Fame, it was announced today.

Tatsuno won 20 games in 1979.

Five former players — Will Clark (Mississippi State), Bob Horner (Arizona State), Brooks Kieschnick (Texas), Robin Venture (Oklahoma State) and Dave Winfield (Minnesota) — joined five ex-coaches — Skip Bertman (Louisiana State), Rod Dedeaux (USC), Ron Fraser (Miami), Cliff Gustafson (Texas) and Bobby Winkles (Arizona State) in the inaugural class.

The honorees were the top 10 vote-getters from among 34 nominees.

Induction is July 3-4 in Lubbock, Texas.
