Police Beat: Driver arrested in alleged vehicular assault

A 34-year-old Nu'uanu man was arrested early this morning on suspicion of second-degree murder after he allegedly tried to run over another man on Kauila Street near Kawananakoa Middle School.

The alleged victim told police he was walking along Kauila Street sometime about 2 a.m. when a car stopped adjacent to him. He told police he recognized the driver from a run-in he had with him earlier this month. The man on foot said as he walked away, the car headed directly at him. The man told police that the car grazed him, resulting in minor injuries.

The driver then reportedly left the scene. Police located and arrested him a short time later.

Ex-boyfriend arrested after alleged altercation

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Makaha yesterday after he allegedly punched his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend in the face while she was sitting in a friend's car.

Police were told that the former couple had been arguing about 1:40 p.m. when the woman ran to her friend's car with the man chasing her. They were told the woman was able to get into the car but the former boyfriend reached in through the open passenger window and struck her in the face, resulting in minor injuries.

The suspect left before police arrived but turned himself later at the Wai'anae Police Station where he was arrested on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Husband arrested in alleged assault

A 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon at his apartment on River Street after he allegedly struck a 28-year-old woman in the head with a metal paper towel holder resulting in what police described as serious injuries.

Police were told the pair had been arguing because the woman wanted to go out but the man wanted her to stay home. They were told the husband lost his temper and struck his wife once in the middle of her head with the towel holder.

Police were called to the apartment about 5:30 p.m. and arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Clerk spots suspected fake check

A 31-year-old Moili'ili woman was arrested yesterday after she allegedly tried to cash a counterfeit government check at a check cashing company in Iwilei.

Police said the woman entered the business at 710 N. King Street and presented the check, which the clerk immediately suspected might be counterfeit.

Police were called and arrested the woman about 10:15 a.m. after Secret Service officials told them the check appeared to be counterfeit.

Teen arrested in tie to assault complaint

Police yesterday arrested an 18-year-old Kane'ohe man as a suspect in an assault complaint filed earlier this month in Kailua.

Another man, also 18, told police he exchanged words with the suspect about 12:30 a.m. April 9 near the corner of Kalaheo Avenue and Kuulei Road.

He said the suspect then punched him twice in the right eye, fracturing his eye socket.

Police said the suspect was identified later via a photo lineup and turned himself in yesterday at the main police station. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Makiki Heights man arrested in bat attack case

Police yesterday arrested a 20-year-old Makiki Heights man in connection with a March 17 incident in which a 42-year-old man reported being attacked with a baseball bat.

The older man told police he was arguing with the younger man, who grabbed a wooden bat and struck him in the face.

Police said the older man's jaw was broken during the incident and that he reported losing most of his upper front teeth.

Following an investigation, the younger man was arrested yesterday at his home in the 500 block of Krauss Street on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Teen arrested in car damage incidents

An 18-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday as a suspect in a series of incidents March 1 having to do with damage to cars in the Kapolei area.

A witness reported seeing the man running on the top of cars that were parked in Kapolei, police said.

The witness reportedly followed the man as he drove to Makakilo, where he broke the windows of two other vehicles.

The suspect was arrested yesterday on suspicion of one count of second-degree criminal property damage and two counts of third-degree criminal property damage.
