Kaimuki residents protested increased property assessments in 1928.

1891: Queen Lili'uokalani visits the Hansen's Disease settlement at Kalaupapa.

1929: Dillingham Hall is dedicated on the Punahou campus. The building was a memorial to Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Dillingham.

1940: Security is tightened as the U.S. Navy's fleet arrived in Pearl Harbor for the continuation of war drills.

1953: Former President Truman thanks the people of Hawai'i for the generous reception his family received during their month-long stay on Coconut Island. The note was printed on the front page of The Advertiser.

1966: Former Olympic swimmer Samuel Alapai Kahanamoku, a younger brother of Duke Kahanamoku, dies at the age of 63. He competed in the 1924 Olympics in Paris, where he finished third in the 100-meter swim. Johnny Weissmuller was first and Duke Kahanamoku second.

1968: University of Hawai'i President Thomas Hamilton promises students he will ask the Board of Regents to meet with them and to make public the documents in the tenure case of Oliver Lee. Hamilton's promise came at the end of a one-hour and 45-minute orderly sit-in by some 100 students in the hallway outside his Bachman Hall office.

1986: President Reagan arrives in Hawai'i for a two-day stop. He was en route to Indonesia and Japan.
