Maui car crash touches off fire

Advertiser Staff

Maui firefighters extinguished a blaze apparently triggered by a one-vehicle accident this morning on the island's rural west side.

A vehicle traveling on Kahekili Highway near Kahakuloa Point at about 10:24 a.m. veered off the roadway and plunged 400 feet, said Maui Police Department acting Lt. Jamie J. Becraft, noting that the crash apparently ignited the fire. The Maui Fire Department responded and doused the flames.

No additional information was available regarding the cause of the accident or the driver's condition.
