APRIL 27


The April 27, 1917, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reported on a Maui campaign to plant vegetable gardens to forestall a food shortage. The United States entered World War I on April 6, 1917.

1907: More than 2,000 Spanish immigrants arrive in Hawai'i to work on plantations.

1907: The Oahu Country Club formally opens. The public was invited to the reception and was advised that there would be vehicles at the end of the Nu'uanu streetcar line to take visitors to the club. It was a 10-minute walk to the country club from the end of the Liliha streetcar line.

1928: Gov. Wallace Farrington tells the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents he objects to their proposal to charge tuition.
