Punahou holds off Mid-Pacific, 2-1

Advertiser Staff

Jeeter Ishida pitched a four-hitter and struck out the game's final batter with the bases loaded to lift Punahou past Mid-Pacific, 2-1, last night in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball game at Aloha Stadium.

The victory allowed the Buffanblu to tie Iolani (10-2) for first place in the ILH regular season. The teams meet today at 5 p.m. at Central O'ahu Regional Park with the winner earning the regular-season championship and a berth in next month's state tournament.

The Buffanblu scored both of their runs in the top of the fifth on Bucky Aona's single that scored Matthew Suiter and Ishida's double that brought home Maika Murashige.

The Owls closed to 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh on Russell Doi's RBI triple, and filled the bases with no outs. But Ishida got the next two batters to fly out, then struck out the third to end it.
