STAGE: MAY 12-14

Step back into the 1940s via "In the Mood," a musical revue of big band swing and sentimental ballads that's touring nationally. The concert is part of the 2006 Hawaii Arts Season and the Hawai'i Theatre's Military Appreciation Month. Tickets are $30, $37.50 and $45, with discounts for students, seniors, military and groups of 10 or more.

STAGE: MAY 19-JUNE 4

Diamond Head Theatre's next offering is the Tony Award-winning musical "La Cage Aux Folles." It's the story of two gay men who own a nightclub in St. Tropez, and the complications that arise when one man's son announces he's getting married. The Robin Williams movie "The Birdcage" was based on the stage production. John Rampage directs. Tickets are $12-$42.

FESTIVAL: MAY 18-20

Feel the heat at the 14th annual World Fireknife Competition. The three-day event kicks off with the preliminaries, with nine competitors advancing to the semifinals. The festival continues with the Junior Pacific Fireknife Dance Competition and the adult semifinals. Then the finals are followed by the crowning and celebration. Admission to either of the first two nights is $8 kama'aina, $40 visitors. Admission to the finals is $40 adults, $30 children and free for annual pass holders.

STAGE: MAY 18-JUNE 18

Kumu Kahua Theatre closes its 2005-06 season with the historical drama "Another Heaven." Based on a true story, the play looks back on the volatile events that occurred on a Honoka'a sugar plantation in the late 19th century. William Ha'o, right, is among the cast members; Sammie Choy directs. Tickets are $5-$16.

Funky punk rock band Flogging Molly, which mixes in traditional Irish rhythms for campy and brash folk-rock revival sounds, is back for a

Honolulu concert. Local ska favorite Go Jimmy Go opens. The two bands also shared a Pipeline bill in April 2004. Tickets are $20 general, $50 VIP. Doors open at 6 p.m. for this all-ages ska-a-thon.

FESTIVAL: MAY 20

If you're in the mood for something sweet, head for the annual Wahiawa Pineapple Festival, left. The fruitful day includes a look at the history of pineapple in Hawai'i, narrated trolley tours of the town, pineapple samples, keiki activities, entertainment, contests and a pineapple parade at 9 a.m. Celebrity chefs will also be on hand to whip up some pineapple-themed dishes. Admission is free.

FESTIVAL: MAY 21

The 4th annual Israel Day Hawaii Festival marks 58 years of Israel's independence with a daylong celebration. The festivities include Middle Eastern food, Israeli art, interactive booths, Middle Eastern dance, entertainment and keiki games. Admission is free.

Stoner icon Tommy Chong, above, of the cult classic "Cheech & Chong" movies brings "The Marijuana-Logues" to Hawai'i. This comedic off-Broadway stage show written by Arj Barker, Doug Benson and Tony Camin stars Chong as he addresses the rites and humor of pot culture. Tickets are $55, $40 and $25.

COMEDY: MAY 28

Enter Howie's world at "An Evening with Howie Mandel," presented by The Laugh Factory. Now the host of the hit game show "Deal or No Deal," the comedian, above, was last here for a New Year's Eve concert in 2004. Tickets are $49 and $59.
