Sacred music to soothe your soul at three choral concerts

Advertiser Staff

University of Redlands Chapel Singers continue their concerts of sacred music by candlelight from 6:30 to 7.30 tonight at St. Michael's Church, Waialua. The concert's centerpiece is "The Office of Compline," originating in the Benedictine monastic daily prayer cycle and sung from memory with occasional handbell accompaniment.

"This exquisite music is a rare treat in a fast-paced world," said Jeffrey Rickard, choral director of the 32-member a capella choir, which formed in 1965 and has toured the U.S. and Canada.

The program includes popular and classical choral works and the music of Matt Glickstein, a Kailua resident and senior composition major at the university.

Concerts also are scheduled from 8:40 to 9 a.m. tomorrow at Central Union Church before the service, and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at Padua Church, Kailua.

Admission is free. 261-9361.
