Last year's Spam Jam lit up the center of Waikiki. Today's block party again runs from late afternoon through late evening.

Think pink. A light, pale pink. A meat product in a pleasing geometric shape that fits neatly in a can and that is so very easy to slice.

Ah, yes, it's our friend Spam, and once again we celebrate you with the 4th annual Waikiki Spam Jam, a block party that attracts thousands (20,000 last year) to the food, games, entertainment, Spam merchandise and maybe just to shake the hand of the mascot Spammy.

Entertainment is on two stages. The KUCD 101.9/Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center stage offers mostly alternative rock:

  • 4 p.m.: South Pacific Cultural Center

  • 4:45 p.m.: Fast Hand

  • 6 p.m.: Missing Dave

  • 7:15 p.m.: Pimpbot

  • 8 p.m.: Mr. or Ms. Spam Contest

  • 9 p.m.: Go Jimmy Go

    The KDNN 98.5/Outrigger Waikiki Hotel stage focuses on Island rhythms:

  • 4 p.m.: Na 'Opio 'O Ko'olau

  • 4:45 p.m.: The band 7 pm

  • 6:30 p.m.: Mr. or Ms. Spam Contest

  • 6:45 p.m.: Keahiwai

  • 8 p.m.: Raiatea Helm

  • 9 p.m.: B.E.T.

    As for culinary adventures, consider the Spam jambalaya with creole sauce from Canoes (Ilikai); the Spam spring roll from Shanghai Bistro; the Spam taco and Greek salad from Dave & Buster's; Spam katsu from K's Catering; and Spam and fried noodles from Coconut Willy's. Other taste treats will be offered by Sam Choy's and Three Star Catering.
