Wie among Time's 100 most influential

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i golfer Michelle Wie has been named one of Time Magazine's "100 most influential people in the world today," the magazine said today.

The special issue is scheduled to appear on newsstands nationwide beginning tomorrow, a spokeswoman said.

The 16-year-old Wie is one of six sports figuers to make the list that includes NBA star Steve Nash and NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France.

Time's Jeff Chu wrote, in part: "The (Hawai'i) high schooler, who turned pro only in October, is already No. 2 in the women's world golf rankings. She tops the pay scale, pocketing about $10 million a year in endorsements from Nike and Sony. Her sponsors are betting on a player who has never won a pro tourney. 'They believe in my dreams,' she says."
