Help pours in for boy scouts

Advertiser Staff

Donations have been pouring in this morning for the boy scout troop from San Jose, Calif. that had its van broken into Friday, the Visitors Aloha Society of Hawai'i said.

Among the donations to Troop 611 is $2,500 from a local bank and $500 from a local law firm, said Jessica Rich, president of the Aloha Society.

"When I told the troop master about the people calling in he said he was overwhelmed," Rich said. "Our whole purpose of turning this negative experience into a positive one with aloha is definitely ... they're feeling it."

The troop had $2,500 worth of belongings stolen on Friday while they ate at a fastfood restaurant. The scouts have been in Hawai'i since July 17 and cleaned up 36 bags of debris from Waimanalo Beach following the theft.
