Makaha bridge to reopen after 6:30 tonight

Advertiser Staff

Car and pickup truck drivers on Farrington Highway near Kili Drive can use Makaha Bridge No. 3 after 6:30 p.m. today, said Scott Ishikawa, spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation.

Only one lane will be open while other the lane will be used for pedestrians. The bridge had been closed to repair damages caused by a fire last week.

Vehicles over 12,000 pounds will need to continue using the detour through Makaha Valley Road, onto Huipu Drive, then onto Kili Drive and back onto Farrington Highway. DOT officials said the foundation of the bridge still needs to be reinforced before heavy vehicles can pass.
