ACLU asks for dismissal of charges against protesters

Advertiser Staff

The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai'i is asking for a dismissal of trespass charges against two homeless advocates arrested following a protest march to City Hall on March 27.

Julia Matsui Estrella and Utu Langi were among the 50 to 60 marchers who were peacefully protesting the 10 p.m. nightly closure of Ala Moana Beach Park.

The ACLU said the protesters were exercising their constitutional rights to assemble and protest.

The trial for the two is scheduled for Aug. 29.
