UH's Jones clarifies roles of assistants

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i coach June Jones has clarified the assignments for his assistant coaches on offense.

Jones said Wes Suan will continue to coach the offensive line and running backs; Dennis McKnight will coach the offensive line and assist with the special teams, and Mouse Davis will coach the running backs and coordinate special teams.

Jones made his comments in response to recent questions about coaching assignments.

As for doubling assignments, Jones said, "That's how we've always done it. When I was an assistant (in the NFL), I used to work with the offensive line and the quarterbacks. We've always done that here."

At the beginning of last year, Suan and Davis worked with both the running backs and offensive linemen. By the end of the season, Davis worked solely with the running backs and Suan focused mostly on the offensive line.

Suan said: "I'm still involved with both (the running backs and offensive line). It'll good to work with Dennis. Dennis has so much experience on his resume. What a great addition."

McKnight rejoined the Warriors as a graduate assistant. He was UH's full-time special teams coach in 1999 and 2000. Last year, he was an assistant coach at San Diego State.
