Man, 23, dies when car flips over on Date Street

A 23-year-old man died this morning when the car he was driving hit parked cars and flipped over on Date Street, said Bryan Cheplic, Emergency Medical Services spokesman.The 4:17 a.m. accident at Date and Mahiai streets near Iolani School also injured a male passenger who was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, Cheplic said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 5 a.m.
Traffic investigators closed Date Street from Kapiolani Boulevard to La'au Street and expected to be at the scene for at least four hours, police said.
