Kailua tennis' Nos. 2 and 3 seeds advance

Second-seeded Ryan Ideta and Malino Oda defeated Torin Ching and Jeff Giesea, 6-4, 6-3, last night in a quarterfinal match of the Kailua Racquet Club Men's Night Doubles.
In another quarterfinal, third-seeded Minh Le and Wei-Yu Su beat Hyatt Bailey and Blake Mosley, 7-5, 6-5.
YOUTH BASEBALL
PEARL CITY SENIORS WIN
Bryson Nakamura pitched six innings and Ryno Acosta completed the two-hitter as Pearl City pummeled Northern California, 7-0, yesterday in the Little League Senior Division (ages 14-16) Western Regional at Salem, Ore.
Nakamura also batted 3 for 4, and Acosta, Jason Rasa, Jeff Domingo and John Abreu each had two hits for Pearl City. Domingo and Abreu had two RBIs apiece.
Pearl City (2-0) plays Arizona Saturday in pool play.
PEARL CITY JUNIORS WIN
Robert Brown pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts as Pearl City trounced Washington, 10-0, yesterday in the Little League Junior Division (ages 13-14) Western Regional at Beaverton, Ore.
Brown also had two hits, and Justin Protacio and Chace Numata each had two hits for Pearl City.
Pearl City (1-0) plays Utah today in pool play.
VOLLEYBALL
UH MEN ADD HITTER
The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team has received a signed commitment from an outside hitter from Serbia.
Nemanja Komar, who is 6 feet 3, will join the Warriors in the fall.
UH announced the commitment after receiving a faxed copy of Komar's scholarship agreement.
"Nemanja is a very dynamic outside attacker, and is a countryman of former Rainbow Warrior great Dejan Miladinovic," UH coach Mike Wilton said.
DIVING
UH'S FRICK FINISHES 5TH
University of Hawai'i's Magnus Frick placed fifth in the men's 1-meter springboard yesterday at the 2006 European Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Frick, who entered UH in spring 2006 and sat out, totaled 371.15 points while competing for Sweden.
Finland's Joona Puhakka won the event with 425 points.
MONDEN IN SENIOR FINAL
Aleia Monden, a 2006 St. Andrew's Priory graduate from Mililani, survived two cuts to reach the finals of the women's 10-meter platform at the 2006 USA Diving Senior National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
Monden will compete in the 12-diver final tomorrow.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
HAWAI'I TEAM PREVAILS
Hawai'i's John Hedlund and Michael Thornton teamed to win the UK Open title last weekend in Weymouth, England. Hedlund, 47, lost in the final twice before.
Thornton, 24, from Kaua'i, is playing the AVP Tour in the U.S. with former Rainbow Eyal Zimet. Hedlund played professionally in Europe after an All-America collegiate career.
Hedlund and Thornton beat Steve Fee and Albrecht Glitz, 21-17, 21-18, in the final.
SAILING
ZAMBONI TRIUMPHS
Doug Taylor's X35 Zamboni won the four-day, seven-race 2006 Waikiki Offshore Series, which was completed Sunday in winds of 5 to 15 knots.
Gary Fanger's ID35 Sensation placed second and Todd Wyrick's Sydney FINS third.
Gil Budar's Farr 43 Gerontius placed first in the PHRF fleet, followed by Sensation and John Myrhe's Farr 43 Flash Gordon Turbo.
