Surf advisory in effect until 6 p.m.

Good waves and gusting tradewinds are making for fun but challenging conditions for surfers along Hawai'i shores today.A new south swell rose late yesterday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a high-surf advisory through 6 p.m. today.
Wave faces along southern shores on all islands will be 6 to 9 feet today before gradually subsiding through the early part of next week, the weather service forecast.
On west shores, the surf also will be large, with wave faces of 5 to 8 feet forecast through today.
Wave faces on east shores will rise today to 3 to 5 feet.
North shores will be 2 feet or less.
Tradewinds are expected to be brisk through the weekend a steady 15 to 20 mph.
