Surf advisory in effect until 6 p.m.

Advertiser Staff

Good waves and gusting tradewinds are making for fun but challenging conditions for surfers along Hawai'i shores today.

A new south swell rose late yesterday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a high-surf advisory through 6 p.m. today.

Wave faces along southern shores on all islands will be 6 to 9 feet today before gradually subsiding through the early part of next week, the weather service forecast.

On west shores, the surf also will be large, with wave faces of 5 to 8 feet forecast through today.

Wave faces on east shores will rise today to 3 to 5 feet.

North shores will be 2 feet or less.

Tradewinds are expected to be brisk through the weekend — a steady 15 to 20 mph.
