Police Beat: Man critical after fight over bedsheet

A 58-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition and his alleged assailant arrested after an argument over a stolen bed sheet, police said.

The victim confronted the suspect, a 54-year-old man, after watching him allegedly steal a bed sheet shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday near Beretania Street, according to police.

When the victim told the suspect not to take the sheet, he was punched by the suspect and fell backward, police said.

He got back up, but the suspect allegedly punched him again and he fell again, this time slamming his head on the concrete edge of the street, police said.

The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

His alleged assailant was later found and arrested yesterday by police. He faces a possible charge of first-degree assault.

Boy, 14, allegedly strikes man with pipe

Second-degree assault and terroristic threatening charges are pending against a 14-year-old boy who hit allegedly hit a man with a pipe, police said.

The teenager and the man, 22, were arguing in a Kalihi street about 1:15 p.m. yesterday, police said.

When the argument grew more heated, the teen allegedly hit the other man with the pipe, police said. A 45-year-old man intervened and the suspect then threatened to kill him, police said.

Suspect arrested for pulling semi-automatic on two teens, man

Police arrested a 44-year-old man yesterday for allegedly pointing a semi-automatic handgun at a man and two teenage boys last month in Hawai'i Kai.

The oldest of the victims — a 38-year-old man — had confronted the suspect on July 7 after the suspect allegedly made an obscene gesture at one of the other victims, a 15-year-old boy, police said.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly aimed a handgun at the trio, which also included another 15-year-old boy, police said.

The three victims quickly left the scene and called police. The suspect was later identified and subsequently turned himself into police.
