Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i' football team's opening opponent — Alabama — is ranked No. 24 in the preseason USA Today college football coaches' poll, released Friday.

While it is the only ranked team on the UH schedule, the Warriors will face five others who received votes. Boise State (46 votes), Fresno State (14), Purdue (7), Nevada (3) and Oregon State (2) also received votes.

Ohio State received 28 first-place votes and 1,487 points, which were based on 25 points for a first-place vote, with descending totals all the way to one point for a 25th-place vote.

National champion Texas is No. 2 with Notre Dame and USC tied for No. 3. Texas got 11 first-place votes and 1,378 points. Notre Dame had nine first-place votes and USC one. Both received 1,378 total points.

UH opens at Alabama Sept. 2 and plays road games at Boise State (Sept. 23) and Fresno State (Oct. 14). UH will play Nevada (Oct. 7), Purdue (Nov. 25) and Oregon State (Dec.2) at home.
